Eulogy read at the funeral service

Campbell was born on 17th June 1932 in a little cottage above Greenoch, Scotland. The son of Willemina Dunsmore and Nathan McCulloch, he was the youngest of six children, Madge, Jim, William, Elizabeth, Nathan and Campbell. Sadly his father died when he was just 2 years old, leaving his mother alone to bring up the family. Despite this hardship, his mother made a good, happy and close family and was a credit to her children. Campbell never forgot any of his family, especially his mother as he always talked about her fondly and proudly throughout his life. Campbell attended Greenoch academy and had a very good education and after leaving school he worked until he was 18, when he commenced his 2 years national service in the Royal Air Force, spending most of this time in Germany, which he thoroughly enjoyed. After leaving the RAF, he had a successful career, working for only two companies, he was a saleman, selling to the bakery trade, in which he was very well known and liked throughout Scotland. His interests were history, current affairs, football, football & football, golf & generally everything and anything about Scotland, of course. He was one of Scotlands greatest advocates, promoting his country to all his friends and he delighted in talking to them about Scotland's great history, beautiful country side and fabulous weather, as according to Campbell the sun was always shining in Scotland and it was warm there, even in the winter. Campbell liked to tell his friends that Scotland invented almost everything throughout history, which we still see today, with such famous companies as McHonda, McPanasonic and McHitachi. Campbell met Marie who had two children from a previous marriage. They married and Campbell was proud to be stepfather to the children. Equally Karen and Scott are very proud to have Campbell as their step father. He was delighted when Grandchildren and more recently two Great Grand children arrived and he spent many happy years looking after them and sharing his deep knowledge on many subjects - again, Scotland always being central to the theme. After Campbell's early retirement he and Marie had more time to enjoy their love of travel. Eventually Campbell and Marie choose to settle in Campbell's favourite part of Spain where they spent many happy times and where we find ourselves today. They met and kept many lovely friends, many of whom are at this service. Three years ago Campbell and Marie took a two month holiday touring Australia and New Zealand during which Campbell was able to visit his only surviving brother and his wife and children after many years, as he had not seen him since his brother's visit to Scotland in 1986. Marie and Campbell's other main retirement hobby has been genealogy. Together they have spent many years researching their family history, tracing both sides of their families, to their origins in Scotland and beyond. Finally we remember that Campbell was so happy with his life with Marie and loved to tell this to their friends. He was so popular with, and liked by people wherever he went and he was always remembered for his lovely smile and generosity.
